Fry Club Colts (2) v Henbury Colts (2)

12/02/06

Fry’s today take on the top of the table leaders in a game that they all, especially the management team, want to see the boys to do well in and show what they are made of.

Henbury appear a big strong team and look like they will prove to be a handful and big challenge to overcome.

The game looks to have got off to a bad start when Henbury are awarded a penalty in the 3rd minute, but Tom Ashley playing in goal for only his second game for Fry’s, pulls off a fantastic save to deny Henbury taking the lead.

Henbury are getting to the ball first every time in midfield and Fry’s need to tighten up and start taking control. The Henbury keeper has got a fierce goal kick on him and is finding one of his team mates with each place kick.

Fry’s start to get their game together after a few early warning signs and come close to scoring when Jack Baber fired a shot just over the bar. Henbury retaliate and do exactly the same at the other end one minute later.

25 minutes in and Henbury get the best chance of the game but fire miles wide. They are getting most of the scoring chances but their finishing is just not there.

The score is kept to 0 – 0 going into the half time break by the excellent keeping and diving save by Tom Ashley in the Fry’s goal.

The second half starts off with both teams pressurizing and finally pays off for Henbury in the 42nd minute when a low cross goal pass is hammered into the bottom corner of the Fry’s goal 1 – 0.

They nearly get a second when a shot resulting from a corner goes inches wide.

Fry’s have their chances with numerous efforts and have a shot from a free kick taken by Jack Baber palmed just wide by the Henbury keeper. Their perseverance

finally pays off in the 60th minute when Dan Buley latches on to a through ball, rounds the keeper and slots the ball into the net. 1 – 1 and the joy of the Fry’s crowd is clear to hear !!

Fry’s go ahead with about 3 minutes to go when a free kick is whipped into the box by Jack Baber and fired home by Danny Stone. The boy’s have taken the lead against the top of the table team and seem sure to win.

The unbelievable happens with 30 seconds to go. The ref gives a corner to Henbury after the ball had clearly gone out of play off one of their players and head home the equalizer with the last touch of the game. The final whistle goes immediately after the restart.

A fantastic game to watch, with both teams playing to their strengths. It could have easily gone either way so ending 2 –2 was probably a fair result in the end.
